《極端氣候不只是警告！它已成新常態：Ida風暴襲擊紐約，地鐵街道成河流：紐澤西州南方龍捲風將一排房屋夷為平地》
* 紐約週四凌晨宣布進入緊急狀態。美東北地區因艾達颶風帶來的暴雨，造成嚴重洪災，紐約及紐澤西地方政府，在許多淹水地區包括華人聚居的Queens等地區進行多次水上救援。
* 颶風Ida肆虐美國南部各州後，繼續北上。周三晚上襲擊美國東北部，週四早上紐約市政府宣布紐約為重大危險區。
Ida在中央公園下了傾盆大雨，地鐵被洪水淹沒，整個城市系統幾乎皆癱瘓。直到清晨，洪水才慢慢退去。
*紐約鄰近的紐澤西州紐瓦克市，出現有氣象記錄以來，最大單日降雨紀錄。
* 紐約市從1日入夜開始禁止民眾出門，禁令持續至當地時間2日清晨5時，所有非緊急車輛，不得上路。
全紐約市地鐵，幾乎皆因洪流灌入停擺，只剩7號線與史塔登島線（Staten Island Railway）營運，但班次也延誤。

* 「紐約時報」報導，昨晚紐約中央公園記錄到時雨量3.1英寸（約78.7毫米）的降雨強度，打破上週才締造的1.94英寸（49.2毫米）紀錄。

⭐️五月是美國亞太裔傳統月！美國亞太裔外交官在美國國務院扮演重要的角色，在AIT的運作上更是如此！在整個五月份，我們將為各位介紹AIT亞太裔官員的重要貢獻。今天要和大家介紹的是政治組官員黃東偉(Tom Wong)的故事。
✨在我外派來台期間，我最難忘的回憶莫過於有幸受邀至台中女中演講，台中女中正是我媽媽50多年前畢業的母校。我媽媽畢業不久之後便離開台灣，最終定居美國，並在當地認識了我爸爸，而我爸爸則是早了幾年移民美國。我和我弟弟在紐澤西長大時，我媽媽就常常教我們一句中文俗諺：「吃得苦中苦，方爲人上人」。就像許多新移民一樣，我父母一生中也經歷了不少艱辛與磨難，但他們最後都成為美國社會富有貢獻的一份子。而當我努力奮鬥，希望讓我的家人和國家為我感到驕傲時，我從來沒有忘記這句媽媽教過我的話。誰又想的到，在我媽媽離開台灣、又過了一代之後，她在美國出生的兒子會加入美國陸軍的行列，隨後成為美國外交官，甚至有機會回到媽媽的母校去拜訪。- AIT政治組官員黃東偉

✨One of my most unforgettable moments during my tour in Taiwan was having the honor of speaking at the Taichung Girls Senior High School, where my mother graduated over 50 years ago. Shortly after graduating, my mom left Taiwan and eventually settled in the United States, where she met my father, who himself had immigrated several years prior. When my brother and I were growing up in New Jersey, she taught us the Chinese phrase "吃得苦中苦，方爲人上人” (loosely translated as "no pain, no gain"). Like countless other immigrants to the United States, my parents endured their fair share of hardships in their lifetime, yet emerged to become productive members of American society. In my own efforts to make my family and country proud, I've never forgotten that phrase my mom taught me. Who would have thought that a generation after my mom left Taiwan, her American born son would go on to serve in the U.S. Army, then join the U.S. diplomatic corps, and have the opportunity to return to visit the very institution that educated her in her youth. -- Political Section Officer Tom Wong

Introducing itself to the regulated New Jersey betting market, Australian sportsbook PointsBet (pointsbet.com) has recruited the services of NBA legend Allen Iverson.
The new Garden State incumbent plans to release its first US online sportsbook property this November.
Prior to its official sportsbook launch, PointsBet will host a free-to-enter $1 million NBA sweepstake, allowing sports fans to pick the 8 finalists of season 2018/19 NBA East and West Conferences.
Gearing up for its NJ launch, last week PointsBet released its first US advertising campaign ‘The Answer’ featuring Allen Iverson.
The former Philadelphia point-guard and NBA Hall of Famer is considered one of US sports’ most controversial and pioneering characters, characteristics driving PointsBet US launch.
“We’re over-the-moon to work with an athlete of Allen’s calibre – when people think of AI, they think of a renegade and cultural phenomenon that was known for his flash and style on and off the court. For those reasons, we saw the partnership with Al as a perfect fit to represent the PointsBet brand,” said PointsBet US CEO Johnny Aitken.
“Our forthcoming commercials show that Allen is ‘The Answer’ for more than just basketball.”
